Hardwood Flooring Guide
A flooring representing a firm foundation of strength, luxury, and upward mobility, natural hardwood is considered by homeowners both past and present to be the epitome of flooring fashion. Both a classic component of vintage construction and a perennial favorite of modern-day designers, hardwood flooring is, without a doubt, here to stay.

Solid Hardwood vs Engineered Hardwood
Times continue to change, and while the appeal of hardwood flooring might likely be evergreen, the availability of hardwood choices continues to evolve. Modern-day homeowners can choose between two major varieties of hardwood flooring: solid hardwood and engineered hardwood.
With each floor plank made from a single, solid piece of wood, solid hardwood flooring is the more traditional of the two. It’s extremely appealing for its sheer longevity: this flooring is one you can refinish over and over again. If properly maintained, your great-great grandchildren will be playing on this floor. However, solid hardwood cannot be installed in certain spaces- such as finished basements – and can come with a hefty price tag.
With each floor plank made using multiple layers of organic wood, engineered hardwood flooring is made to resemble its solid counterpart. This type of wood flooring is denser, sturdier, and offers more stability against moisture and humidity. For that reason, it can be installed in areas where solid hardwood won’t work: spaces that fall below grade, for example, are prime candidates for engineered hardwood. This flooring also tends to be more affordable, but it can only be refinished once or twice during its lifetime.
